Substance Abuse
Therapy

As a licensed LCDC (Chemical Dependency Counselor) with extensive knowledge and expertise in substance abuse therapy, I would consider this area my specialty. With my experience as a highly skilled therapist, I have a deep understanding of the challenges and complexities associated with overcoming addiction.

During our therapeutic sessions, we will not only focus on effective problem-solving but also explore the underlying root causes that contribute to your struggles with substance abuse. This exploration will involve delving into your past experiences, and examining any trauma or emotional wounds that may have influenced your relationship with substances.

In addition to addressing the root causes, we will also work on building coping mechanisms and developing healthier habits. We will explore various techniques and strategies that have been proven effective in helping individuals overcome addiction. This may include a combination of mindfulness exercises, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivation toward change, and relapse prevention techniques.

Our collaboration aims to create a safe and nurturing environment where you can openly share your thoughts and emotions without hesitation. I will provide a judgment-free space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported throughout your journey towards recovery.

By utilizing evidence-based techniques and personalized strategies, we will work together to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored specifically to meet your unique needs. This plan will consider your individual circumstances, preferences, and goals. We will regularly assess your progress and adjust as necessary to ensure that you are on the right path to recovery.

My goal is to empower and provide support to help you make positive and lasting changes, leading to long-term recovery and overall well-being. I am committed to walking alongside you every step of the way, offering guidance, encouragement, and empathy as we navigate this transformative journey together.

  • Where are you located?
Severance Psychotherapy is based in Houston, TX. We are currently seeing clients virtually and in-person at our location in the Galleria area of Houston, TX. The physical office address is 4801 Woodway Dr. Ste. 318B-W, Houston, TX 77056 located off of 610 and Memorial Dr.
  • What can I expect during the first session?
Reviewing therapy rules, expectations, and policies of both the therapist and the client are an essential part to building a healthy therapeutic relationship. During the first session, we will go over any relevant background information, answer any questions, and decide if moving forward together feels right.
  • What kind of treatment approaches do you use?
I use an intergrative approach because it allows us to utilize a variety of different approaches to treatment and explore different psychological theories. There is no one size fits all. Each client's needs are unique to them and should be treated as such.
  • If I am a client in another state, can we see one another virtually?
Currently, we are able to see clients virtually in Texas, New Mexico, Delaware, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, and Utah, Nevada, Vermont, North Dakota, and Oregon. We are currently working to get licensed in Washington, Louisiana, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Colorado, Montana, Hawaii, and Wyoming. These states will be updated on the website to reflect an active license in these states. We are working hard to make our services accessible to individuals across the United States. Stay tuned for updates!
  • Are there clients that you aren't able to treat?
Due to our code of ethics, LPCs, LCSWs, Psychologist, and Psychiatrists are ethically responsible to practice within the scope of their competencies. During our initial session, we cab explore whether both parties feel comfortable moving forward to begin therapeutic treatment together.
  • Is therapy hard? What if I don't like talking?
The therapist lets the client take that lead on what they would like to discuss in sessions. Nobody knows the client better than the client knows theirself. Therefore, it is important to meet the client where they feel its approrpriate. Remember, this is YOUR session. Keep in mind, therapy is hard work and takes a lot of dedication, reflection, and awareness. Clients that I work with have accomplished life changing habits and behaviors because of their willingness to work hard. Their successes are theirs. I am simply a trusted professional that they confide in and who helps them along the way.
  • How long does therapy take?
Therapy is a combination of efforts made by the client within the session and the effectiveness in the therapists treatment approach. There is no magic number that we work toward getting to. It is simply a matter of the progress the client makes, the value they see in the sessions, and the changes that are reflected in the areas of their lives that they have the desire to change.
  • Do you take insurance?
Yes! Severance currently take Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Oxford, Oscar Health, and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. If we do not take your insurance, please refer to your out-of-network benefits to assess whether filing a claim for reimbursement could be beneficial for you.
